CAL STATE EAST BAY BASEBALL SUMMER BASEBALL CAMPS IN JULY

The annual Cal State East Bay Baseball Summer Baseball Camp is on July 20-23 for players 7 to 12 years of age and July 27-30 for players 13 to 15 years of age. All instruction will be provided by the Cal State East Bay coaching staff using the fundamentals and drills utilized by the college team. Summer baseball camps will be held in July.

CAL STATE EAST BAY WOMEN'S WATER POLO TEAM FINISHES FIFTH IN COLLEGIATE III NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2008 Collegiate III National Champion women's water polo team (18-17) finished fifth in the Collegiate III National Championships on May 1-3. On May 1 Cal State East Bay lost to Pomona-Pitzer 11-4 and U. of Redlands 11-10 . On May 2 the Pioneers defeated Macalester 10-6 and Washington and Jefferson 16-6. The Pioneers earned fifth place honors with a 12-5 victory over Washington and Jefferson on May 3.

Cal State East Bay baseball team (16-24) concluded the regular season on April 28 with a 1-0 victory over Sonoma State. Senior pitcher Roberto Rodriguez tossed a one-hit shutout. Rodriguez recorded five strikeouts. Senior third baseman Mark Marelich has been named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division Baseball Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Marelich compiled a 3.90 grade point average, made the Dean's List five times and earned Magna Cum Laude. Matt McCormick, Brian Lloyd, Devin Grigg, and Stephen Gatehouse were named to the Association of Division III Independents All-Independent Baseball Teams First Team. Mark Marelich was named second team while Jake Walter and John Volk received Honorable Mention recognition.

The Pioneer women's softball team concluded the 2009 regular season with a 13-25 record. Cal State East Bay finished Cal Pac Conference play at 10-10. The Pioneers were well represented on the Cal Pac All-Conference Team. Jesse Peterson was selected as the Co-Player of the Year. Peterson, along with Sam Sciutto, and Amanda Tietz were first team selections. Alyssa Johnson, Sarah Davini, and Mary Ogden received Honorable Mention recognition.

The Pioneer men's golf team captured the Cal Pac Conference Championship Tournament on April 26-27.

The Pioneer women's golf team placed eighth in the Lady Argo Tournament hosted by Notre Dame de Namur on April 20-21.

Cal State East Bay men's basketball team lost to #5 Black Hills State (S.D.) 62-58 in the NAIA II Basketball Championships on March 12. The Pioneers trailed 30-17 at halftime and led 47-41 with 8:51 remaining in the second half. Tauran Moore, who led the Pioneers with 31 points, converted a pair of free throws with 1:32 left to tie the game. Black Hills State outscored Cal State East Bay 6-2 in the final 1:32 to win the game. The Pioneers earned their fifth trip to the NAIA II Championships by defeating William Jessup University 55-52 in the Cal Pac Conference Playoff Championship game on February 28. Tauran Moore, the Cal Pac Player of the Year, hit the winning basket with 0.8 seconds remaining. The Pioneer men's basketball team captured their first Cal Pac Conference championship since 1998 with a 94-83 overtime victory over CSU-Maritime on February 19. Cal State East Bay finished the season at 19-8 and 14-2 in the Cal Pac. Junior guard Tauran Moore was named 2009 NAIA Division II Honorable Mention All-American and Cal Pac Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Moore was selected to the first team as well as sophomore forward Will Freedman.

The Pioneer women's basketball team concluded the 2008-09 season with a record of 9-17 and 6-10 in Cal Pac Confernece action. Cal State East Bay lost to Dominican University 85-71 in the second round of the Cal Pac Playoffs. The Pioneers defeated William Jessup 77-58 in the first round of the Cal Pac Conference Playoffs on February 24. Amy Elliott was named first team while Morgan Hunter received honorable mention recognition on the Cal Pac Women's Basketball All-Conference Team.

Cal State East Bay women's swim team finished 16th in the NAIA Championships on March 4-7.

For the 11th straight season, the Pioneer women's volleyball team competed in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball West Regionals. The Pioneer women's volleyball team concluded the 2008 season with a record of 29-5. The Pioneers won 24 of their last 26 matches. Jackie Randolph and Kelly Paris were named 2008 American Volleyball Coaches Association All Americans.

The Pioneer women's cross country team finished 28th in the NAIA Cross Country Championships. The Pioneers captured their sixth straight Cal Pac Conference Championship. The Pioneer men's cross country team fell one point short of winning the Cal Pac Conference Championship.

Cal State East Bay men's soccer team concluded the 2008 season with a record of 5-10-3.

The Pioneer women's soccer team ended the 2008 season with a record of 10-8-1. Cal State East Bay won four of its last five matches.



Pioneer athletics accepted for CCAA membership

Cal State East Bay will begin competition in NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Association as a "scheduling partner" for the 2009-2010 athletic year, with eligibility for conference championships when the NCAA approves it for "active status." The CCAA membership includes San Francisco State, Sonoma State, Chico State, Humboldt State, CSU Monterey Bay, CSU Stanislaus, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Los Angeles, CSU San Bernardino, and UC San Diego.

Cal State East Bay is a member of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Cal State East Bay sponsors 15 Intercollegiate sport programs.

The Cal State East Bay Intercollegiate Athletic Program has developed into a successful non-scholarship program. Since 1961, the Pioneers have won a total of six national collegiate championships. Over 160 CSUEB All-Americans have been produced at the national level along with 77 Conference Championships. In 2005-2006 twelve sports qualified for post season competition. The Physical Education Complex houses a 3,500 seat gymnasium, two swimming pools, training rooms and a spacious weight room. Outside facilities include University Stadium for soccer, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, and a field house.
